Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 17

Round 17 of the Betfred Championship got underway on Friday night as Featherstone racked up 13 tries against Hunslet at the South Leeds Stadium.

The Rovers keep hold of sixth spot for another week, as a result.

Doncaster emerged victorious in the capital and recorded their first-ever league double over London Broncos.

Richard Horne's men came from behind to lead after half an hour thanks to tries from Watson Boas and Sam Smeaton, but the hosts responded on the hooter to see the sides level at the break.

The visitors responded well in the second half as another Boas try and an Edene Gebbie hat-trick, as well as seven goals from Connor Robinson, ensured a return to winning ways on the road.

On Saturday, Halifax Panthers secured their first win since April against Toulouse – the team that had been topping the table until now.

‘Fax ended their losing run in style and stunned the French side with doubles from James Saltonstall and Louis Jouffret, as well as a try from David Nofoaluma.

Kyle Eastmond’s side are one point adrift from a Play-Off spot, while Toulouse have slipped to second following this defeat.

A resilient Oldham gained a third straight win in the Championship after beating Sheffield.

The Roughyeds had built up a 20-4 lead, before Owen Farnworth dived over on the 78th minute to put the icing on the cake for Sean Long's team.

As expected, a fiery encounter unfolded between two of the league’s heavyweights, York and Bradford.

And there was significant movement in the league table too, as the Knights moved on up to the top with a hard-fought victory over the Bulls.

With intensity levels high throughout, a penalty from York skipper Liam Harris proved to be the difference after a late try from Bradford set up a tense finish.

The Bulls took the lead with an early penalty from Jordan Lilley, but once York went ahead with a try from Ben Jones-Bishop, they always led in this enthralling contest.

Meanwhile, Barrow posted 14 points on Batley in Cumbria.
